so, just what is joy?

a deep feeling of contentment yes.. .. something that imbues the soul..

[ rusty gates, lanterns & other such glorious bits adorn my garden here at Villa Maria.... simple... and joyful to my soul..]

cleaning my kitchen bench this morning ~ looking out the window at the garden here at Villa Maria..a garden that is more like a jungle with the rain we have had the past weeks, a feeling of joy springs to my heart space

whenI see a blue bird alighting on a birdbath.. for a short moment, [knowing it is on safe ground away from prowling cats].... it's little tail going this way and that, then flits off into the orange tree... that is joy ~ for me and the little blue wren.. both connected through Nature.

[the whole eastern coast of Australia has been lashed with storms & torrential rain .. please keep in your hearts, the people of Queensland and northern NSW - who have faced flooding and destruction the past week ~ lives lost and thousands of homes swept from their foundations.. I cannot begin to imagine the fear of the people as this happened while they slept]..

The images of the situation in Queensland get more and more shocking - the British news hadn't mentioned that it has now spread into northern NSW as well, but it makes sense, storms are no respecters of state boundaries, after all.

Joy - in the small things - so true, so true! -looking at your lovely red-gold crocosmias; then looking at the clumps of snowdrops coming out here...

In your description I can feel your joy. It is so sad that nature is ravaging those parts of Australia. I only hope that somehow those directly affected by this destruction will be able to find even a sliver of Hope and Joy amongst the ruins surrounding them.

It is good to hear of your joy, it makes me smile.
It is so sad about the people devestated by floods and disasters. It makes my heart bleed.

We have been watching the news about the flooding and it looks horrible. Such devastation. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost their home or a loved one. I can't even imagine what they must be going through.

Robyn, we are seeing the devastation in Australia, caused by the flooding, every night on the news. It's horrendous, and my hearty goes out to those affected by it.

I like to watch the birds too. We have had a very moderate Winter so far, but the birds still need our help with food. The line up on the deck railings for their turn at the feeder, seeing them gives me such joy.

Oh yes -- you've reported the JOY so well. (And I am trying to decide whether I'm a prophet or a mystic. Can I be both??? A prophetic mystic?)

Hi Robyn,

My computer died and had to be replaced so am only just now able to get around blogs. Thankfully, we live near the Logan River system so were safe from the floods but my heart has been so sad watching the devastation my fellow Brisbanites have endured. A big clean up is already under way as the waters recede. The Aussie spirit will come through and we will recover albeit gradually.

A beautiful post....birds bring me such joy and peace!

Love,

Robyn,
I love the joy that you find in the natural world and in the simple small tasks that bring the natural world to your doorstep. Thank you for sharing such loveliness. I am very sorry to hear of the floods and loss of life. Nature can be beautiful but also unkind and harsh. My prayers are with those who lost homes and family.
xo,
Noelle

With love and prayers to all that have been affected there. Our humanity is such that we help each other in these situations....while there is suffering there is also joy.

dear one....my offer for shelter is for the entire world, all creatures great and small and speaks directly to the floods, fires, mudslides. the tree is a symbol of the forces of nature and our will to thrive against all odds. and yes the idea of comfort and shelter extends to those touched by the destruction of humanity too.

holding you close....

It's very hard to feel any joy or pleasure in anything even here on the other side of the world to you when we hear and see the devastation done by the floodwaters in Queensland. I can't imagine how awful that would have to be..

it's the often the smallest and most simple things in life that bring the greatest joy.
My thoughts are with those in Queensland.
